Metaverse Womb is performed by Naama Ityel. Naama is Israeli Jewish, her grandparents are from Austria and Germany who both moved to Israel following the second world war. At the time of this performance, Naama found herself living in Berlin and expecting a baby, it felt as though she had come full cycle.
Her intentions were to communicate complex and difficult understandings to her baby of their world and roots with an overriding sense of belonging. Through motion-capture, Naama is connected to her 3 avatars – self (Present), beyond human self/child (future) and her grandmother (past). Nearing the end of the performance she sings a lullaby her mother sang to her in Hebrew as a child.

Metaverse Womb explores ritualistic performance as an act worldbuilding inside the Metaverse. It explores the creation of space which unites the past, present and future in one spacetime, in an effort to to communicate complex history, ancestral wisdom and hope for the future. Through movement, Naama’s physical self and three digital avatars create a transformative energy beyond the physical realm, both with and for Naama, her baby and ancestors.
