This piece is inspired by a previous durational performance by Keiken in which performers of different ages, gender expressions, sex and cultural backgrounds intuitively responded to live generative sound whilst wearing silicone pregnancy bumps. Their visceral and emotional reactions to the experience of wearing the pregnancy bumps made it clear that regardless of gender expression, sex, cultural background and age, everyone felt embodied, attuned and had emotional connections to their silicone belly.

The audience are invited to put on the wearable haptic womb. Once they plug in the headphones and womb visitors can experience the sound, frequencies and vibrations of different animals that all communicate through ultrasound. These animals are bats, dolphins, whales, tarsiers, moths, frogs, rats, moths, katidis and oil birds.

This meta-womb is an empathy and consciousness device used to connect to the unknown or things we don’t always understand. The piece explores sensory addition from research into neuroscientist Paul Bach Y Rita who discovered that due to the neuroplasticity of our brains there is the potential to rewire our senses. The meta-womb explores how we can use technology to create first-hand simulations of other consciousness and how we can create future wearable technology for holistic experiences. The intention of this technology is that it can be used in many different ways from gaming to therapy, education and communication.
