In the midst of 2020, Sakeema became a leading figure for Black Trans Lives Matter and Black Lives Matter in the UK where she delivered a series of heartfelt and empowering speeches. During this collaboration we questioned what makes a good leader and explored how leadership can be formed not only in words or actions but through the cultivation of energy.

During the performance participants were invited individually to activate the AR via the temporary tattoo on Sakeema’s chest. The AR expelled a cloud of affirmations from Sakeema’s body, digitally releasing restorative energy. The affirmations were ‘Set Your Intention’, ‘I Am’, ‘This Too Shall Pass’, and ‘This Is Temporary’. Following the audience individually activating the AR via the temporary tattoo, Sakeema begun to dance around the audience where they were invited to view the performance in real life and/or through the AR filter.

Augmented Empathy: I am explores and reframes the concept of leadership, one beyond words & tradition that can cultivate change through presence, movement, creativity and affirmations. The performance and the augmented reality were built upon the foundations of Sakeema’s daily affirmations and designed to share and transfer this energy with the audience. As the performance was after the very first lockdown due to COVID-19 and before tougher restrictions came into place, it focused on the power and necessity of intimacy and physical presence.
