Visitors arrive on the island by boat and find the pavilion located at the end of the trail that spans the Biennial. The work is in the middle of a path that connects two islands together and is where two seas meet. As visitors make their way towards the Spirit House, and before it is in their full view, the sun reflects and shimmers the mirrored roof from afar. At the Spirit House, there are four windows, three of which visitors can open and peek into a portal of 3D sculptures suspended in the air and a 3D printed landscape with spirit creatures atop. Visitors can also sit around the circumference of the Spirit House and enjoy the natural surroundings. Gentle sounds of chimes fade in and out on occasion.

This Angel Spirit House Is a home for spirits from Keiken’s speculative future and the spirits are an offering to the island. When encountering Ángel Yōkai Atā, Keiken invite the visitors to just be. The concept can be captured by a mantra they created: ‘A spirit is not just a spiritual thing, it is everything and to be a student of the invisible is the practice of compassion. Omoiyari.’
