Now permanently located in Kalasatamanpuisto, in Helsinki, “Ángel Yōkai Atā” (Angel Spirit House) is a temple-like structure, protecting a soft soundscape within.
3D-printed beings are visible from the windows, reminiscent of spirits, game avatars or temple offerings. The installation serves as a portal or an entrance into an alternate reality: a world of imagined angels and spirits.
The title of the piece combines Spanish, English, Japanese and Téenek – the language of the native Huastec people of Mexico: ángel/angel in English/Spanish; the Japanese word yōkai, meaning spirit; and the Téenek word atā, meaning house.
The work belongs to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed and curated by HAM.
The second MUNCH Triennale explores the spaces between the real and the virtual, old and new technologies, dystopian and hopeful visions of the future.
Curated by Tominga O’Donnell and Mariam Elnozahy, the exhibition “Almost Unreal” centres on art and new technologies.
This is the first public presentation of the demo of “Alchemy of Perspectives,” the second chapter of Keiken’s ongoing world-building series, “Morphogenic Angels.”
Keiken’s North American debut, “Sensory Oversoul,” features two major installation works presented together for the first time.
Curated by Cheryl Sim, the exhibition explores the nature and future of consciousness through a presentation of “Spirit Systems of Soft Knowing ༊·˚” (2024) and “Morphogenic Angels: Chapter 1.” An additional “worldbuilding” room offers insights into Keiken’s practice, the Morphogenic Angels characters, game engine information, and more.
